Identification and control design for path tracking of hydraulic loader crane

2017

The controlled operation of hydraulic machines with multiple degrees of freedom is challenging due to complex nonlinear dynamics of cylinder actuators, in addition to multibody dynamics like in the case of hydraulic manipulators. This paper addresses the system identification and control design for path tracking of a standard hydraulic loader crane. The kinematics of the crane is solved for operation in the vertical plane and generation of trajectories for the tool tip to be followed. A frequency response measurements and analysis have been done for dynamics modeling of both hydraulic cylinders actuating main boom and jib. The static dead-zone type input non-linearity has been identified an…

Feasibility study of electromechanical cylinder drivetrain for offshore mechatronic systems

2017

Currently, there is an increasing focus on the environmental impact and energy consumption of the oil and gas industry. In offshore drilling equipment, electric motors tend to replace traditionally used hydraulic motors, especially in rotational motion control applications. However, force densities available from linear hydraulic actuators are still typically higher than those of electric actuators. Therefore, usually the remaining source of hydraulic power is thereby the hydraulic cylinder. This paper presents a feasibility study on the implementation of an electromechanical cylinder drivetrain on an offshore vertical pipe handling machine. The scope of this paper is to investigate the fea…

Gut Microbiota, Short-Chain Fatty Acids, and Herbal Medicines

2018

As an important source for traditional medical systems such as Ayurvedic medicine and traditional Chinese medicine, herbal medicines have received widespread attentions from all over the world, especially in developing countries. Over the past decade, studies on gut microbiota have generated rich information for understanding how gut microbiota shape the functioning of our body system. In view of the importance of gut microbiota, the researchers engaged in studying herbal medicines have paid more and more attention to gut microbiota and gut microbiota metabolites. Among a variety of gut microbiota metabolites, short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) have received most attention because of their imp…

Non-symmetrized Hyperspherical Harmonics Method for Non-equal Mass Three-Body Systems

2018

The non-symmetrized hyperspherical harmonics method for a three-body system, composed by two particles having equal masses, but different from the mass of the third particle, is reviewed and applied to the $^3$H, $^3$He nuclei and $^3_{\Lambda}$H hyper-nucleus, seen respectively as $nnp$, $ppn$ and $NN\Lambda$ three-body systems. The convergence of the method is first tested in order to estimate its accuracy. Then, the difference of binding energy between $^3$H and $^3$He due to the difference of the proton and the neutron masses is studied using several central spin-independent and spin-dependent potentials. Finally, the $^3_{\Lambda}$H hypernucleus binding energy is calculated using diffe…

Flexible multibody simulation approach in the analysis of tibial strain during walking.

2007

Strains within the bone tissue play a major role in bone (re)modeling. These small strains can be assessed using experimental strain gage measurements, which are challenging and invasive. Further, the strain measurements are, in practise, limited to certain regions of superficial bones only, such as the anterior surface of the tibia. In this study, tibial strains occurring during walking were estimated using a numerical approach based on flexible multibody dynamics. In the introduced approach, a lower body musculoskeletal model was developed by employing motion capture data obtained from walking at a constant velocity. The motion capture data were used in inverse dynamics simulation to teac…

Driven Bose-Hubbard Model with a Parametrically Modulated Harmonic Trap

2016

We investigate a one-dimensional Bose–Hubbard model in a parametrically driven global harmonic trap. The delicate interplay of both the local interaction of the atoms in the lattice and the driving of the global trap allows us to control the dynamical stability of the trapped quantum many-body state. The impact of the atomic interaction on the dynamical stability of the driven quantum many-body state is revealed in the regime of weak interaction by analyzing a discretized Gross–Pitaevskii equation within a Gaussian variational ansatz, yielding a Mathieu equation for the condensate width. The parametric resonance condition is shown to be modified by the atom interaction strength. In particul…

Unitarity constraint for threshold coherent pion photoproduction on the deuteron

1997

The contribution of the two-step process {gamma}d{r_arrow}pn{r_arrow}{pi}{sup 0}d to the imaginary part of the amplitude for coherent pion production on the deuteron is calculated at threshold exploiting unitarity constraints. The result shows that this absorptive process is not negligible and has to be considered in an extraction of the elementary neutron production amplitude from the {gamma}d{r_arrow}{pi}{sup 0}d cross section at threshold. {copyright} {ital 1997} {ital The American Physical Society}

mplicit Identification of Contact Parameters in a Continuous Chain Model

2011

Accurate contact modeling is of great importance in the field of dynamic chain simulations. In this paper emphasis is on contact dynamics for a time-domain simulation model of large chains guided in a closed loop track. The chain model is based on theory for unconstrained rigid multibody dynamics where contact within the chain and with the track is defined through continuous point contacts using the contact indentation and rate as means. This paper presents an implicit method to determine contact parameters of the chain model through the use of none gradient optimization methods. The set of model parameters are estimated by minimizing the residual between simulated and measured results. The…

Optimal damping coefficient for a class of continuous contact models

2020

AbstractIn this study, we develop an analytical formula to approximate the damping coefficient as a function of the coefficient of restitution for a class of continuous contact models. The contact force is generated by a logical point-to-point force element consisting of a linear damper connected in parallel to a spring with Hertz force–penetration characteristic, while the exponent of deformation of the Hertz spring can vary between one and two. In this nonlinear model, it is assumed that the bodies start to separate when the contact force becomes zero. After separation, either the restitution continues or a permanent penetration is achieved. Therefore, this model is capable of addressing …

Elastic pion scattering on the deuteron in a multiple scattering model

1996

Pion elastic scattering on deuterium is studied in the KMT multiple scattering approach developed in momentum space. Using a Paris wave function and the same methods and approximations as commonly used in pion scattering on heavier nuclei excellent agreement with differential cross section data is obtained for a wide range of pion energies. Only for $T_{\pi}>250$ MeV and very backward angles, discrepancies appear that are reminiscent of disagreements in pion scattering on $^3$He, $^3$H, and $^4$He. At low energies the second order corrections have been included. Polarization observables are studied in detail. While tensor analyzing powers are well reproduced, vector analyzing powers exhibit…
